Hollie Godden music video analysis
Keri Hilson - Knock You Down
Knock you down is an R&B track. A typical feature in an R&B music video is to show a relationship between a male and female character. Knock you down contains a relationship between Kanye West and Keri Hilson. As the video goes on it changed to Ne-yo and Keri Hilson.
As certain word is said we see a picture or small clip of it on half of the screen. For example when Kanye West says the word 'nasa' we see rocket smoke on half the screen. Also another one is when Kanye west says hour glass we see an hour glass with the sand slowly falling down. Showing a relationship between the lyrics of the song and the picture we are seeing is very common in R&B music videos.
Knock you down is a very fast up-beat song. Most of this video is shot in slow motion which goes against typical R&B music videos but as we see pictures and clips flash on the screen it picks up the pace to go with the beat.
In this video we see lots of close-ups of Keri Hilson and Kanye West at the begining but as it goes on we see more of Ne-yo not kanye west. This shows that Keri is the star of the video.
Theres a part in the video before ne-yo comes into it when Keri and Kanye are very close. This is what we would expect to see in an R&B music video. This gives the feeling that viewer is looking on them.
This video also contains lyrics and dance moves from another of Ne-yos songs - Mrs Independant. He repeats the same dance move to the lyrics in one of his own videos.

Music Video analysis
Lady Gaga – Paparazzi
The genre of Lady Gaga paparazzi is pop. One of the characteristics of the music video paparazzi by Lady Gaga is that it has a very story narrative. Another characteristic is the Lady Gaga is performing in the music video as the woman who gets pushed off the balcony, which is a characteristic of pop videos. This video is quite conventional towards a pop video. The style of the video is very up to date and modern which is consistent in a lot of pop videos. However the video also challenges the conventions of a pop video by the length of the video. This video is 7 minutes 53 seconds, whereas in a lot of pop videos the length of the video is about 3 or 4 minutes.
The lyrics talk about what it’s like being the paparazzi and what they do for example ‘need that picture of you’. This relates to the image because there are scenes where there are paparazzi taking hundreds of photos. The song is quite past paced, which relates well with the visuals because the editing is done so that there are short duration shots to link with the music. At times the images cut at the same time as the beat.
There are a lot of close ups of Lady Gaga in this music video showing that it is Lady Gaga and by using close ups we can see her unique style more clearly which reminds us that its by Lady Gaga. Lady Gaga is known for her unique style and this is portrayed throughout the music video to add her own style. She is well known for her crazy outfits, which are unique and typical for Lady Gaga. The video also shows off that she can dance as well as sing which adds to the performance.
There is a good indication of notion of looking where it looks like we are the paparazzi looking through the camera taking photos of Lady Gaga. This creates the illusion that the audience are taking the photograph looking through the camera.

pitch
An Oak Tree - Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly
Inspiration
- Ben and Jerry's Advert
- Milk Maid
We are going to use Photoshop instead of our own drawings to create cartoon pictures which relate to the lyrics of the song. Oak trees will be our main cartoon character with the background being real life. We will also include cartoon clouds, birds etc. We are going to link the visuals with the lyrics in a narrative way.

Magazine advert first draft
This is the magazine advert for our music video. It is a first attempt and firther information will need to be added. We realise that a magazine advert should include information on where to find the product and general information about it, including price.
The design of the advert correspond to the conventions of an indie / alternative music group. The colours stand out so it will be eye catching when flicking through the magazine. It shows the main singer of Get Cape Wear Cape Fly and it also clearly shows the band name alongside the song name.

Lyrics
We are going to base our music video on the lyrics. The lyrics tell a story so we thought this would be a good way to add narrative to the music video.
Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly - An Oak Tree
Take a look at the oak trees
In the park standing tall
Like a tower of resilience
Despite the leaves that fall.
Stripping them back to their
Fraught frames, all naked
And on display. like us they
Dress for the season.
it will soon be spring again.
but you and i were not designed
To be evergreens i guess
That it's time to long for
April to come. am i willing
To wait here again? although
I'm hungry and i'm sad and
All the bridges i made on the
Way are quickly turning into
Fires and as the embers are
Growing and no phoenix emerge
I guess another set back is
Another lesson learnt.
Let's strip it back to the bare bones,
Though not a matter of choice,
There's still something of worth
In just an acoustic and a voice.
As the new shoots start growing
At the start of the year,
The tree is ready to deliver
Despite initial fears
but you and i were not designed
To be evergreens i guess
That it's time to long for
April to come. am i willing
To wait here again? although
I'm hungry and i'm tired and
All the bridges i made on the
Way are quickly turning into

Growing and no phoenix emerge

inspiration
All these videos are inspirational because they all have cartoon in them, this is what we are going to do for our music video.
Ben & Jerry's Advert 1
This video is inspirational because it uses bright colours and is really unique. We like the way there is real images alongside and within the animation. It has a clear relationship between the lyrics and visuals in an illustrative fashion which is found within Goodwin's points.
Ben & Jerry's Advert 2
We like this video for the same reasons as the other Ben & Jerry's advert as again it has great colours and is fun to watch. This also uses visuals to relate to the lyrics.
Lilly Allen Advert
This uses another method to get real life images into and alongside animations and is therefore inspirational. It uses bright colours and flashy animations to catch the viewers attention and this can be used to keep the watcher of the music video entertained and hooked.
